Why You Shouldn’t Shave Between Waxes (Even If You’re Tempted)

Why You Shouldn’t Shave Between Waxes (Even If You’re Tempted)

I get it — stubble sneaks in, and you’re eyeing the razor like it’s your old reliable friend. But if you’re committed to waxing, that razor is actually getting in your way.

Here’s why shaving between waxes is a big no-no (and what to do instead):

1. It Messes With Your Growth Cycle

Waxing works best when all the hair is growing at a similar rate. Shaving cuts hair at the surface, which means your next wax will be more patchy and less effective. You might even feel like you need to wax sooner.

2. You’ll Feel Pricklier Sooner

Shaving cuts the hair bluntly, so it grows back with a sharp tip. Waxing removes it from the root, which makes it grow in softer and slower over time.

3. It Increases the Chance of Ingrown Hairs

The more you mix methods, the more irritation your skin goes through. Sticking to waxing helps train the hair to grow back finer — and fewer.

What to Do Instead:

  • Let the hair grow (ideally 2–3 weeks or about ½ cm).
  • Exfoliate gently a few days before your appointment.
  • Book your next wax so you’re not tempted to reach for the razor.

Staying consistent with waxing leads to longer-lasting smoothness and softer regrowth. Your future self will thank you!
