Ingrown Hairs: How to Prevent Them (and Why Aftercare Matters)

Ingrown Hairs: How to Prevent Them (and Why Aftercare Matters)

You’ve just left with silky smooth skin — job well done on my part! But what happens next? That’s where you come in.

Waxing is a team effort. I’ll take care of the prep, the technique, and getting every last hair out… but if you want to keep that skin smooth and bump-free between visits? You’ve got to do your bit too.

Let’s talk ingrown hairs — what causes them, how to stop them, and why your aftercare makes all the difference.

What Are Ingrown Hairs, Anyway?

They happen when a hair curls back or grows sideways into the skin. It can lead to redness, bumps, itchiness, or even little whiteheads. Totally normal, but totally avoidable with the right care.

Here’s How You Can Prevent Them:

1. Exfoliate (Gently!)

Start 3–4 days after your wax. Use a mild exfoliator or mitt 2–3 times per week to keep dead skin cells from blocking new growth.

2. Moisturise Regularly

Soft, hydrated skin = less resistance for hair breaking through the surface. Use a light, fragrance-free moisturiser or a specialist post-wax lotion I can recommend.

3. Wear Loose, Breathable Clothing

For the first 24–48 hours, ditch the tight knickers and leggings. Let the area breathe!

4. No Picking or Squeezing

Tempting? Yes. Helpful? Nope. If something’s bothering you, ask me and I’ll help advise the best solution.

My Bit vs. Your Bit

I've done my job - you left smooth, fresh and glowing. Now it's your turn to maintain that smoothness so your skin and hair are prepped and primed for your next wax. A little care goes a long way.

Need help choosing the right scrub or moisturiser? Just ask at your appointment — I’ve got tried-and-true favourites that actually work.
